Virtualisation

Virtualisation is one of the latest trends in IT and can help reduce your IT costs and simplify server management at the same time.

What is Virtualisation?

In a nutshell, virtualisation allows one physical computer to act and perform like many computers.
Traditional servers have been restricted to running one Operating System on the server hardware, restricting the server functionality and using on average 5 – 15% of the their processing power.

Now, with the help of virtualisation software, such as Microsoft’s HyperV, WMWare or XenServer, we can take advantage of this unused processing power to divide one powerful physical server into multiple virtual environments, called virtual servers. Each virtual server has its own operating system allowing a range of applications and functionality to co-exist on a single machine, without conflict.

By consolidating multiple servers into one physical device we can reduce hardware costs and power consumption.
In addition, IT management is simplified and disaster recovery improved due to the manageability and portability of the virtual machine. A virtual machine is literally a file which can be copied and restored more easily in the event of a disaster.
